An Election Dilemma
I was wildly excited this morning when my polling card for next months European election landed on my doormat. I'm perfectly serious, I love voting. God alone knows why, as far as I can tell you'd have more influence if you locked yourself in a public convenience and wrote dirty words on a wall. For some reason by the time polling day comes I have worked myself into such a state that I come to believe that the whole election hangs on my vote. On wrong X and Labour could get in yet again!
Which brings me to my troubling dilemma. Having looked at the choice on offer I have whittled it down to two lucky finalists. I rather like the SNP candidate and think he would do a good job but that's a bit of a waste in Europe as it's a gigantic undemocratic, expenses scam. He seems like a nice chap but what if he got in with a bad crowd on the expenses scene? Think about it, he'd be the new boy, feeling a bit alone then the cool crowd take an interest in him. He feels great and bit flattered to have such exciting new friends and that's when they'll pounce! What if they corner him and tell him he's a pussy if he doesn't bump up his expenses. Of course he'd be the one caught and made an example of and no one would believe that the bullies made him do it and in real life he's a fellow brought up with the utmost care by respectable parents. All that's wrtong with him is that he's pro-EU.
It's a schoolyard classic used to happen all the time round the smokers during my days at secondary. I'll never forget the day poor Jatinder got booted out of school for grand larceny after being lured into leading role in a badly planned school equipment heist by the neds. I'm afraid it was partly my fault, he was a perfectly well behaved boy until a teacher made him my 'special responsibility' on account of what she felt was my 'calming influence'. Unfortunately he resented my authority and rebelled with disastrous consequences. With hindsight I could have handled the whole situation better. Instead of treating him like a person I acted like I'd been given a toy. If I wasn't threatening to debag him and spank his bare arse in front of the whole school I was trying to put baubles in his hair or lipstick on his face. Never underestimate the havoc that can be wrought by getting in with the wrong sort of folk. If you're reading Jatinder I really am very sorry.
God that was a wander wasn't it? Anyway the second lucky finalist is No2EU who will not be taking up their seat if elected and take a dim view of the European Union so the risks of them getting in with a bad crowd are minimal. Then there is also the opportunity of a European election to register a wee protest at that monstrous union of crooks and it does seem a shame to duck the issue by voting for a pro-EU candidate. In truth it's the haunting fear of splitting the anti-Labour vote that puts me off because my one piddly vote is so vastly important.
My question to you all is have you ever had a polling booth dilemma and how did you resolve it?
Honestly I'm like an alkie who doesn't know whether to tan the rum or the vodka first. I do not want your opinions on my choices, what I'm looking for is a good system to assist me weigh up the pros and cons.

Oh Looky A New President.
Hello,
In between bouts of ripping each other's hair out the ladies in work have been getting very excited about Barack Obama. Given the level of racism in that place I assume it's because they think he's quite pleasant as 'wogs' go.
I hope I've been wrong about the man but every time time I look at him I see an attractive Tony Blair blessed with the gift of impressive public speech and no real beliefs. Mind you if he is for any sort of real change he'll be shot in a month or two.
It would be churlish not to feel a wee bit of excitement at a mixed race fellow being elected as president in a country that was officially segregated in living memory but as MLK once wisely pointed out it's the content of a man's character that counts.
I'll be interested to see whether he follows up on his aggresive intentions towards Pakistan and if so will it will meet with significant liberal opposition? I suspect not. To misquote Bob Dylan they just want to be on the side that's winning (at any cost). Any shred of faith I had in liberals has been well and truly trashed by this election having witnessed their inability to differentiate between legitimate criticism and outrageous misogyny when confronted with Sarah Palin.

Palin, Feminism, Politics, Chit Chat
Hello,
One of the hardest things about being on the left, apart from being on the losing side of every economic argument for the last thirty years (until -tee hee), is having to share space with buffoons like Terry Kelly or worse Rosie Kane. Not that the left hasn't produced a few stars over the years but face it folks we are on the whole losers.
Still at least we can spot a right-wing buffoon at a glance. Or can we? I am referring to Sarah Palin and the reaction to her appointment as Mr McCain's running mate. Whilst I don't count the Democrats as part of the left what with them being so right wing, almost everyone else seems to.
I must start by saying I rather like tough women. My heroines are Mae West and Phoolan Devi. Devi could handle a gun and West was too witty to need one. So naturally, politics and animal slaughter aside, the huntin, shootin, fishin ex beauty queen Palin rather appeals. If nothing I'm else I'm grateful to her for preventing anyone falling into that peaceful women / violent men nonsense which our own Mrs Thatcher should have put paid to years ago.
Oh and before anyone has a fit of the vapours I'm not too sure why anyone outside the U.S cares which party rules America. What's the choice right wing, anti-abortionists v right wing pro-choicers? Excuse me whilst I fail to get into a lather. I'm all for legal abortions and it is an important women's rights issue but in the world league table of outrages against women I submit that our cousins in the US aren't even close to top priority. For example I hear life in Saudi Arabia is a bit of a drag for the ladies. I also know a couple of Iranian women who have suffered tortures that are even worse than reading a magazine feeling a bit fat and demanding the government intervene to make you feel better.
In any case the U.S, as it is fond of reminding us, is a democracy so I'm sure the ladies there have the means to make their voice heard. Oh and with women in the U.S getting the vote 8 years before their British sisters they've had a bit more practice.
I am quite pleased to see that Palin is a member of the anti-abortion Feminists For Life and hope that she will raise the profile of the organisation. It's high time anti-abortion voices found a home in the feminist movement, not least because, pro-choice as I am, I cannot help thinking that in many cases the beneficiaries of legal abortion are the men who enthusiastically embrace 'a women's right to choose' if it means a man's right to absolve himself of any responsibility. A rethink is as overdue as it is welcome.
If feminism is about anything it is about improving the lot of women. There is no question that the freedom to leave abusive marriages, relationships and the social acceptability (up to a point) of single mothers has benefited women. However most of the single mothers I know and there are many, were unceremoniously dumped by their husbands for reasons that would get a man lynched in a truly feminist society. My favourites being 'I'm just not ready for a family' -a man who'd left his children 7 and 4 years old for another woman and 'I just don't find you attractive anymore' to a very attractive size eight blonde who he left for a woman twenty years his senior. Too often the right to be a single mother is duty and struggle for women and the freedom to be self indulgent and irresponsible for men.
A feminist movement that embraces all voices is truly exciting and the presence of high profile, openly feminist candidate on the world scene is welcome. More so having one that doesn't toe the established feminist line. Oh for a movement where one can criticise Julie Bindel without being accused of misogyny by 'worried gardeners'.
Still there is a lot one can criticise Palin for, in particular her inconsistent views on the environment, her abuse of power, her increasingly ludicrous attacks on Obama, her weakness in spontaneous exchanges and more so for her babyish insistence on blaming the press for her current woes. But let's recall that we live in a world that survived Dan Quayle and not one but two Bushes-we will survive Palin if it comes to it, flaws and all.
I'm not suggesting anyone go out and vote for her or start a fan club. I'm just asking the fucking bedwetters to acknowledge she's hardly a new low in American politics and that she does have one or two good points. Honestly the next person who mentions her to me in a tone that suggests she features prominently in the Book of Revelations is getting a sore face.
I note some of the rumours spread about her. I have also noted the absence of liberal voices condemning them which is odd given the sexist nature of several of them. Any woman with a family who is pursuing a career might wish to take note of Democrat concern that you are harming your children and putting career first. Oh and before anyone starts about race - meet Klan member and Democrat senator Robert Byrd. A fine example of the master race!
Unless of course I've got myself all mixed up and one isn't supposed to look to the left for progressive social values or maybe one is and the U.S election is just a gang of right wing puppets fighting in a sack.
I expect someone is going to mention warmongering in all this. Well much as I opposed the last Iraq war, let's not forget Bomber Bill Clinton's record abroad. Does a Sudanese pharmaceutical plant that contained chemical weapons that have never been found ring any bells? That sits along with the owner's links to Osama Bin Laden that don't appear to have been proven. Oh dear! Still it's not like there's a lot of ill health in Africa so I'm sure they managed. It's odd but it sort of reminds me of something though I can't for the life of me think what.
Then there was the policy of regime change in Iraq to rid it of weapons of mass destruction swiftly followed Operation 'Desert Fox' which may or may not have foxed the desert but certainly foxed me as to the point given the spectacular failure to achieve it's aims. Come to think of it -that reminds me of something as well. What is it with anti-war Democrats are they just pissed off a Republican got to do the bombing this time round?
Barack Obama in his pronouncements so far has been pretty hawkish. I very much doubt the residents of Iran and Pakistan will feel particularly relieved in the likely event of his victory in the election. Not I hasten to add that the Republican candidates are any better. But if you think a Democrat presidency will herald the birth of lovely, cuddly America you are deluded. Whoever is elected will act in either what they truly believe to be America's best interests or what they can get away with saying are America's best interests. Sorry folks but no matter how solemnly you tell us this election is 'really important for the rest of the world' , no matter how late you sit up watching debates -none of the candidates give a fuck about you.
It truly is, an election I wish everyone would lose. I did rather like McCain earlier on for his apparent willingness to put principle before party but as the campaign has gone on I find it increasingly hard to see the point in him -though I still think he seems like a nice man and he is friends with Judge Judy which gives him kudos in my book. Palin is the sort of woman I'd like to work with -instead I'm stuck with a load of showboating drama queens and she's running for vice president. Obama is just a Tony Blair I'd like to fuck. His running mate exists.
Now can everyone just accept that I regard this as little more than the world's ugliest beauty contest and stop the apocalyptic banter. In twenty years time we'll all be quivering under the mighty Asian jackboot and the USA will be wheezing and stumbling like a punched out boxer. Naturally the British Isles will still be swaggering about moaning that we used to be top country till the foreigners got too big for their boots.
I have seen nothing worth working myself up into a frenzy about -liberal misogyny aside. Here's a prediction for you -in the grand sweep of history this election will be lucky to merit a footnote. So relax and find something worth fretting over.

Random Election Bits
Sadly I have work in the morning. Grrrrr! As I'm already in trouble for my time keeping I shall be in bed by two. However should anything of note occur between now and then I shall wallop it up having made a last minute hop onto the 'live blogging' bandwagon
23:21- A broken helicopter up north delays the results. I think it's an island that's affected not sure which one, I was running a tap and didn't hear the full report.
23:25- They're rubbing our faces in Labour having the run of Scotland for the last two million years.
23:26 Fuck it's that toad Douglas Alexander. He was round my way a few weeks back provoking the heckle of the decade from a slightly pissed pensioner 'You no even worth shouting at ya prick!'. I settled for a muttered 'cunt'.
23:31 Christ what a bunch of bores.
23:32 The broken helicopter is in Inverness. The votes of the Western Isles are stranded.
23:33 Oh it's not broken. It's something to do with fog.
23:37 Christ they're talking about the new electronic voting system. They've been using it in Norway apparently.
23:38 OOOOH fifteen minutes from the first result. A Labour win in some bovine Labour heartland is predicted.
23:42 Oh look Jeremy Vine
23:46 Wishaw the 'pigsty' is a bawhair off announcing a result.
23:47 Christ the pundits are waffling.
23:48 Oh it's Tommy. Doesn't he look smart!
23:50 There is something comical about Patrick Harvie.
23:51 Bollocks people only vote green when they can't be arsed spoling their paper.
23:52 'I haven't done the maths on that' -Patrick Harvie -I don't doubt it.
23:54 For the love of God! When will something happen.
23:55 Oh look it's Tommy again.
23:56 Oh no it's McConnel and Bridget 'The Moll' McConnell.
23:58 Harvie isn't comical. He's peculiar, like a panty sniffer. I'm scared.
23:59 Can we have Tommy back. I like the way he rolls his r's.
23:59 Run to the hills it's Jackie Bird.
00:14 A madman on the loose with a golf club in Edinburgh West. He smahed open the boxes and ripped up the ballot papers. Let's hope they were Labour votes.
00:27 Imagine how smug Terry Kelly must be feeling just now.
00:28 In fact don't you'll only get all maudlin.
00:29 Oh look Wishaw again.
00:31 RESULTS!!!! Oh McConnell won in the 'pigsty'.
00:33 Bald man with an anti-trident banner.
00:34 I think Scotland should be nuked.
00:35 Why won't McConnell shut up?
00:36 If I'd been one his pupils I'd have strangled him. Imagine that teaching fractions.
00:37 You can shove your smoking ban up your arse. If McConnell got lung cancer, I'd piss myself laughing.
00:38 A cup of tea, I think.
00:39 Ballot boxes sinking in the Clyde.
00:41 Highest ever vote for the spoiled ballots.
00:54 I think McConnell's having a nervous breakdown. He looks distracted as if he's about to cry. He's not even smirking. I'm worried.
00:57 I think he's on drugs.
01:02 Oh it's Kelvin (my bit) Fuck Off! Another Labour win. Booooo! 1207 majority down 2%.
01:06 Shut up you fucking fishwife.
01:08 1195 spoiled papers up from 169 in Kelvin.
01:11 Charles Kennedy looks like I feel
01:12 Dundee West SNP WIN! At fucking last! 6.1% swing to SNP from Labour.
01:42 Annieland Bloody Labour again. That's it I'm off to bed. Bunch of winning bastards.
01:45 Has the Labour winner lost his marbles? He's like a spinster shrieking at a mouse.
01:49 'very interesting seats'
01:52 Airdrie and Shotts Another Labour win. A big rough lassie in a cheap white jacket. I'll bet she's not wearing pants.
It's Shite Being Scottish.......
Using the highly sophisticated technique of eavesdropping on buses, shop queues and work, I have arrived at the conclusion that Labour's reign of incompetence is set to continue for another four years in Scotland.
The consensus amongst permed pensioners is that Labour are shite but so is everyone else so we all might as well vote Labour. Good God, don't they get bored? If you want a vision of Scotland's future imagine Terry Kelly fighting a lampost forever.
I have voted of course, though for all the difference my votes ever make I might as well have thrown myself under a racehorse in protest at life under Labour. Honestly if they get in at the next election I think we should start some sort of armed resistance movement.
Let's hope I'm wrong.

Election Stuff
The cartoon in todays Herald features a Labour candidate on the doorstep canvassing votes with the words 'If you vote for me on Thursday, Tony Blair will resign'.
I don't deny that is an attractive prospect but here's a better deal. Vote anyone but Labour, Tony Blair will still resign and we'll be rid of Jack McConnell as well.
Now the world and his wife will be live blogging the elections tommorrow night, do drop in on them. Should make a change from the usual BBC/STV yawn fest.

DANGER! SAVE THE HARD WORKING FAMILY!!!!
The Labour Party have put a most distressing leaflet through my door. Apparently if the SNP win the election and Scotland becomes independent we'll all need to stump up £5000! To be honest I was thinking of remortgaging so I can probably come up with the money but what of hard working families? Are these so called Scottish Nationalists thinking of them?
As all those who know me will tell you I worry constantly about hard working families. Are they getting enough to eat? Do they have enough money to spend in IKEA? Will the children have to walk to school if fuel duty is raised?
I must say it's got me worried. It's all very well for us up in Scotland, we'll be £5000 up if we stay as we are, but what about the English, Welsh and Northern Irish hard working families?
Presumably they're all going to have to fork out another £5000 to keep us. What if they rise up and kick us out the union and blow the £5000 on new bathroom suites and school fees?
I don't mind telling you I am petrified. Quivering in my boots. As ever though, I have questions.
Why after about a million years being a Labour dominated country, not to mention ten years of Labour government, are we still such a basket case? What steps are being taken to rescue us before people are sponsoring Scottish babies by direct debit?
Then again this leaflet is a bit of a red rag to the Clairwil bull. I mean O.K we are skint but should we really be admitting it in front of the neighbours? No one likes a showing up. To save face I suggest we start a national menage for the independence fee, bump up the price of whisky and go for it.

Oh Lordy Here Come The Nazis......
Tommoro Belongs To Me' -BNP Supporter -Stormfront Web Forum
Vote BNP if you don't want the whole of London and Britain, turning into the ape and reptile enclosures of London Zoo!' -BNP Member -Stormfront Web Forum
Hello,
As I'm sure we are all aware following last week's laughable party political broadcast the BNP are fielding thirty-two morons for election next month. What a bunch they are!
First up we have Kenny Smith standing in Glasgow, he's hard to describe really, though freaky, Nazi geek isn't a bad start.
'SMITH sickened neighbours on his native Lewis by waving a swastika flag on Hitler's birthday.
As Scottish secretary, he vets potential recruits to the BNP and introduces them to their members and officials.
Smith is known for smooth-talking in public and projects himself as the acceptable face of the party. But in private, he is quick to launch into racist bile.'
Imagine living next door to that!
Next up is David Kerr, his hobbies include goosestepping in the vicinity of brown skinned people in an effort to start a race war. I'm not making this up!
'PART of BNP's security team and a candidate in national elections, Kerr is a key player in Scotland.
He was among 58 fans prevented from attending Scotland's match with Norway in Bordeaux, France, during the 1998 World Cup.
Kerr, from Port Glasgow, has organised marches in areas with large ethnic minority populations in the hope of provoking 'race war'.'
Steven Blake is the closet to what passes for normal in that he hasn't been caught masturbating in Nazi regalia- yet. Though he is a fan of some foreign imports....
'THE top-rated BNP political candidate in Scotland, he stood in the Euro elections this year but got less than two per cent of the vote. He runs an IT firm in Stirlingshire but business contacts are unaware of his shadowy politics.
Blake is responsible for the BNP's website, and in the 1980s he imported hardcore Nazi material from the US. He runs Digital Scotland, an IT firm who list work for Edinburgh Cyrenians, a respectable homelessness charity , in their portfolio.
The charity confirmed they had paid the company up to £5000 to run their website but emphasised they were unaware of BNP links.'
It's business as usual for southside uberned Scott McLean
'BNP national deputy chairman and Scotland's regional organiser .
He stood at recent Euro elections and preaches on 'family values'.
Yet, he was photographed giving a Nazi salute at a 'Blood and Honour' Nazi skinhead festival in Scotland. McLean, 33, is a former Glasgow City Council joiner who quit after his views were revealed.
He was involved in gang fights between whites and Asians while at Bellahouston Academy . He joined the BNP aged 18. He has mixed with BNP extremists and others throughout Europe, including members of the notorious Combat 18 Nazi gang.'
What an impressive C.V.
I wonder what Charlie Baillie, another of the 32 BNP candidates makes of all this Nazi love as he took part in the BNP's Rememberance Sunday ceremony. Good Lord! What are they mourning the loss of Nazi life in WW2?
We also have Gary Raikes who apparently takes a dim view of anti-social behaviour. He will, I'm sure be having a stern word with a few of his fellow candidates about their antics.
Walter Hamilton is a particularly disgusting, reprehensible piece of shit who's 'finest' hour to date has been his attempt to exploit the death of Kriss Donald, by hassling his family to win BNP votes.
This next lot will presumably not be displaying much local knowledge having been imported from down south to make up the shortfall.
'Among the candidates in the Highlands and Islands region for the Scottish parliament elections is Roger Robertson, a south-east England organiser. The Lothians sees Sadie Graham from the East Midlands and Tim Rait, who unsuccessfully stood in Maidenhead in the 2005 general election. Mid Scotland and Fife has Michaela MacKenzie, who stood in Warwickshire North two years ago. Meanwhile, the West of Scotland region has Kevin Scott, north-east of England regional organiser.'
The last thing Scottish politics needs is more cretins. Fingers crossed for 32 lost deposits.

Ask Charlie
Hello,
There is nothing Clairwil enjoys more than reminding a cheeky councillor, MP or MSP that I pay their wages. There are two reasons for this, the first is that it's true and the second is that they must be sick hearing it. See, you can goad them beyond endurance without being at all unpleasant.
Anyway I was leafing through The Digger when I chanced upon one Charlie Gordon MSP taking fright at being questioned by a member of the public. It's almost the funniest thing I've ever heard. If you see Charlie on your travels, please ask him a question, taking care to remind him that your taxes paid for his Freeview box. Baiting this man could be more fun than the popular bloodsport of kicking Terry Kelly.
To return to Charlies traumatic encounter with the public, picture the scene. The volunteer staff of Merrylee Matters Community Initiative were doing a spot of gardening when Charlie 'Square-eyes' Gordon came a waddling down the street looking for votes. The volunteers couldn't believe their luck as they hadn't set eyes on Charlie since the last election. Heads full of silly ideas of accountability they seized the chance to ask the reclusive telly addict a question.
One of the volunteers asked Charlie why he'd done nothing to promote the work they did in the community, why he was ignoring the community and stated that he'd done nothing but line his pockets since being elected. A fair point and two good questions, more so when one takes into account the fact that Mr Gordon was head of Glasgow City Council when the notorious Chirnsyde Initiative was given funding.
Rather than just answer the bloody question Charlie and his researcher panicked. I found this detail particularly amusing '.....Gordon's researcher was acting like a child, waving his arms about in the street and demanding that the police come.' The police did come along later and stated that whilst they accepted no-one had been abusive or threatening towards Charlie they would still be charged with breach of the peace if they approached him again.
Like I said before baiting this cretin looks like a lot of fun. There really is only one reasonable response to this. Let's see if we can get his researcher to start bedwetting. We must all ask Charlie a question. Remember keep it polite.

Please God Don't Let Wendy Be In Charge
Today's Herald carries the horrifying news that if Labour lose too many seats in the forthcoming election then she-gargoyle from the very pit of hell Wendy Alexander is hoping to take over.
Almost all politicians annoy me to some extent but usually it's what they say and do that upsets me rather than, arrgh! just everything. I'm sorry but I cannot stand Wendy Alexander. I hate her face, the way she over enunciates like she's talking to a deaf foreign waiter. Honestly I can't hear a word she says without my head filling up with visions of some idiot Brit bellowing EGG. AND. CHIPS. TWICE in a Spanish tourist trap.
I'm told she's very bright but to be frank. I couldn't care less. I am not having that stupid bloody face and hellish voice running the show. Pig in knickers doesn't even begin to cover it. Oh God I'm starting to see her face when I close my eyes. I don't mind ugly people in politics, it's just that she's ugly in such an irritating way and she has that voice.
I'll lay a £20 bet with anyone that she was the class sneak at school and would cry if you borrowed her rubber and got a black mark on it. She's the sort of woman that carries wet wipes at all times and Gordon Brown likes her. In other words she's a thoroughly bad lot.

A task for you all.....
Mr Clairwil reckons that I won't be happy until Terry Kelly jumps out a window. What rot! A man of Terry's age and girth should never jump. Think of the consequences for the rest of us. Good Lord we've already had one Tsunami this century and that is more than enough. Anyway as he still refuses to speak to me owing to me being 'awful and thick', I'd be obliged if you would all pop over and ask him a question or two about the budget. He seems reluctant to talk about it and I'd like to know why, only I'm semi-banned from his blog and won't get an answer.

I just can't take my eyes off Terry Kelly....
Once again I have been forced by circumstances outwith my control to inflict another Terry newsflash on you all. Only the other day Terry made the following 'joke' confession
'christ I'm doing it again. Having been involved in corrupt Labour politics for 40 yrs. I'm already rich, I don't need the money I've stolen enough, so I'm retiring, now crawl back under your stone.'
At least I thought he was joking as you know I always try to think the best of people. Then my attention was drawn to this shocking tale of....oh dear....erm... how can I put this -Labour corruption on Renfrewshire council. Laugh? I very nearly danced. There's even going to be a criminal investigation!
There is of course no evidence at all that our Terry is involved but how unfortunate to make a joke about Labour corruption, then to have this come out. Poor Terry he must be feeling very let down by his colleagues.
Why can't I stop laughing?

I want a prize!
It has come to my attention that The Metro is a holding a blog contest. Obviously we all know that I should win but will I? That's the worry.
In order to emerge victorious from this blog war I need nominations, thousands of the beasties and that is where you, my wonderful readers come in.
How marvellous it would be if everyone just spent a few moments over here nominating me for the grand prize. Now I come to think of it, I have no idea what the prize is but that's not the point, I just want to win it. If I don't some worthy type that blogs about issues with a straight face will win. Where's the fun in that? It's not like they'll appreciate it. Oh no they'll just be getting a sniffy like it's beneath them whereas I'll be as pleased as punch.
Go on, get nominating and feel free to brighten up my day by letting me know you've done so in the comments.
UPDATE! Oh God I can't believe I didn't think of it earlier but would you all mind nominating Councillor Terry Kelly in the Politics category. Imagine the look on the judges faces! It'll be a hoot.

The Scottish Blog Round Up
Just a quick post to let you know that The Scottish Blog Round Up is up for another week. As ever lots of great stuff for you read.
I was pleased to see my two nominations listed, you can view them here and here. Gives one a warm glow and all that. To nominate for next week's round up send an e-mail to: scottishroundup [at] gmail [dot] com.
Just before I go I'd like to draw your attention to this fine website. Could it be that that Labour's snouts are going to be roundly booted out the Scottish trough come May? Cross everything.
Incidentally does anyone know of a tactical voting website or any plans for one to provide a simple guide to getting Labour out of office in one's constituency? Mind you in my part of the world it'll take more than an election to shift them, perhaps a mass prayer for divine intervention might do the trick.

Terry Watch- A Call To Arms!
As you will see in the comments below Will P of the fine J. Arthur MacNumpty blog has just launched Terry Watch to keep an eye on our good friend Councillor Terry Kelly.
Doctor Vee correctly in my view argues that our Tel embodies everything wrong with Scotland's slavish devotion to a Labour Party that thinks because we've been loyal, it can kick us as it pleases.
You might say that we should simply ignore him and he'll go away. Well he won't. What Tezza needs is more attention, more readers. I dream of his blog being the most famous blog in this world and beyond. I don't believe many people voted for Terry Kelly as such, what they in fact voted for was Labour and look what they've ended up with! The least we can do is make sure everyone concerned fully understands what a vote for Labour in Scotland really means. It means bullying, ad hominem attacks*, the crudest form of tribal politics, inconsistency, 'we won and youse didnae', buffoonery, posturing over action, the debating skills of a saloon bar drunk, a mindset like a leftist George Bush, juvenile anti-Americanism and everyone's wrong except Labour. Oh did I mention I was a bit peeved?
All politics aside, people unfit to hold office are exploiting blind party loyalty to advance themselves and we are paying for it. Remember it's 'only' expenses now but from May this year it will be a wage of £15,000+ per year. Ok maybe not the highest wage in the world but if you think it will stay so modest then you're a lot more trusting than I am. Just look at how MP's salaries have increased over the years. Personally I think they should set a good example and take only the minimum wage but I expect they're all far too grand to live on such a pittance. However, I digress. I wouldn't dream of telling you how to vote, all I am asking you to do is read Councillor Terry Kelly's blog and ask yourself is this man worth £15,000 p/a of my money? Then cast your vote accordingly.
If we keep taking democracy for granted like this they'll take it off us. Oh and if you're reading this from outwith Scotland shaking your head at the funny little Jocks and their silly councillors, then think on this. We have in Scotland sent more than a few MP's down to Westminster, have we not? Yes, in fact some ill-feeling on the matter has come to my attention. You will note that our MP's have done rather nicely for themselves, if not for the electorate. Think how much more pleasant it might have been if the worst among them had been nipped in the bud at council level. It might not affect you now but it might in the future and then you really will be sorry. It will be too late when Prime Minister Kelly has you quivering under his mighty jackboot. Think communist Russia with bad jokes. Just don't say you weren't warned or come crying to me. OK that was scare tactics but stranger things have happened.
So there we are. That is my take on the awful crisis in our democracy. So what should we do?
Well I urge all of you anyone in any part of the world with a blog to join Terry Watch. Just place a link to his blog in your sidebar and that's it! Easy as pie and twice as tasty. If you'd like to do more, write a post about him, write six, place a link your e-mail signature, tell everyone to read his blog, bake 'Terry Watch' cakes, write a song and release a 'Terry Watch Aid' single, make stickers, posters, badges to promote his blog. Get the press involved. Hire a branded Terry Kelly hot air balloon, alert the Red Cross. Anything, all publicity is good publicity. The one good thing I can say about Tezza is that he has brought nationalist and unionist, right, left and centre together in slack jawed amazement at his political success so far. Let's put our other differences aside and do our level best to make him world famous. He has long believed that he is the victim of a nationalist-tory-socialist conspiracy. We can make his dream come true! The scrapping may resume when he's out of office. Come on there's only one of him and many of us and if we all spat at once we'd drown the oaf.
Toodle Pip!
*and before anyone starts, Yes I am familiar with the ad hominem fallacy. Yes I have read my own blog -but not in a kinky way. The fact is that I am not standing for election. One expects certain standards in public life. Like when they used to resign after a scandal and so on. I am a member of the public and one that has lived down to every expectation anyone ever had of me. There is one set of rules for them and another for us, just not in the way they'd like. That is all.
