Hello,
I see the atheists are creaming themselves over their pathetic adverts attracting a complaint. Ah there's nothing like playing the daring radical in your safe European home. Honestly all we need now is for some inadequate to send Dawkins a death threat and they'll enter a state of irreligious ecstasy. We can draw some comfort from the complainant having less personal credibility than the Hamiltons but it would have been better if no one had risen to it. Still the way the atheists have jumped all over this absurd complaint shows what a hollow attention seeking enterprise their little campaign is.
It's a curious thing but I've lived in Scotland my whole life and whilst I can recall being irritated by religion on occasion I can honestly say I've never felt remotely oppressed or harassed by it. Even when our evangelical chums turn up at your door at odd hours it takes less than a minute to send them on their way. I'm rather fond of the hellfire and brimstone types that preach in the town of a weekend in Glasgow with their dramatic tales of God rescuing them from a life in jail. They seem like well meaning if slightly intense eggs. In any case they clearly believe that religion has helped them in their lives surely the decent thing to do in the circumstances is to spread the word.
There is nothing whatsoever radical or daring about stating you don't believe in God in the UK but plenty obscene and self indulgent about the conduct of the atheists involved. When I was an atheist I used to say it to Christians and Muslims all the time and all I got in return was a calm statement of their beliefs. I think the worst thing that happened to me as a young atheist was getting smirked at by a teacher in school and told that I had rather too much to say for myself. I know we are a nation that has become prone to ludicrous overreaction to things or in other words spoiled beyond belief but surely the atheist community can live with the odd snide comment.
Of course there is a perfectly valid debate about what role religion should play in society. Personally I support the separation of church and state and the withdrawal of state funding for faith schools and I'd have been happy to support a campaign on those issues. On the other hand I'm perfectly happy for public holidays to be based around Christian festivals given Britain's Christian heritage. I'll take a day off whoever suggests it.
I would also have been delighted to see the money raised from the pointless bus campaign used to oppose genuine religious oppression. In my previous job I used to have a very pleasant chap calling into my office from time to time who had made the unfortunate error of being overheard telling a joke about a local imam and has the horrific scars to prove it. I also used to have a lovely woman call in who only escaped her death sentence for adultery because she was lucky enough to have friends and family with enough cash to pay bribes and buy her a plane ticket. Or if you want a less obscure example what about Meena Keshwar Kamal? All victims of religious oppression and not atypical yet the most pressing matter for British atheists is whether or not some punter on the bus believes in God or not.
Where is the money to help victims of religious torture? Where are the donations to campaign against oppressive theocracy? Languishing in the lack of media attention pile for being insufficiently sexy? Why is some London professional being irked by seeing a Christian advert on a bus more pressing than these issues? I have no doubt at all that Ariane Sherine regards herself and her beliefs as the centre of the universe but that doesn't make so.
Whilst we should be happy that we live in country where the worst thing that's happened to some folk is being 'made' upon pain of being shouted at to sing Onward Christian Soldiers at school assembly, I think it reasonable to be angered by their spoilt child posturing. Of course just in case you thought they were merely a petty bunch of badly dressed Marie Antionettes there is the 'compassionate side' to this campaign. I'm not kidding apparently they wet their pants at some Christian advert containing a link to a website quoting the usual biblical stuff about non-believers roasting on the hob of hell and got worried about folk who might be worried by this. Well God or wanky sixth former forbid that anyone should be worried!
Clearly the atheists are people so unsure of their own convictions that they need to band together for reassurance but does that mean that everyone else is so mentally weak? Who exactly are these Christian adverts worrying? I might be inclined to glance at the website and enjoy a bit of the Bible (one of my favourite reads) but anyone worried by it is likely to be a believer and hardly likely to be swayed by another bit of advertising.
If it wasn't be an obscene waste of valuable resources I'd suggest a bus campaign bearing the slogan ' British Atheists are probably just a bunch of self indulgent milksops with no stomach for a real fight so stop worrying and believe what you like'. Instead I urge anyone whatever their beliefs who is against religious oppression to make a donation to RAWA.

Bishop Devine
Hello,
I see frock wearing old cocksucker Bishop Devine has been acting the giddy goat in the papers again. Oh dear.
There is a part of me that loves Catholicism and a part that makes me want to kick the church down a flight of stairs. I attribute it to my my 'mixed' heritage. My 'mixed heritage' was something that never mattered growing up in a normal area but having gone east I've found it to be both an invaluable tool in reasoning with arseholes and in tormenting morons. I can see both sides. Catholics win on art, Prods on literacy and I declare a draw on music. You may scoff but in my neck of the woods there are flute bands that are easily as good as a Latin Mass.
In terms of religion I love Christianity, Sikhism, Hinduism, Islam, Voodoo and Wicca. I love luck generating charms and systems I am superstitious. I substitute the word atheist for the word wank, I've never been sufficiently riled to get onto the rationalists answer to Hezbollah -theists. In truth I pretend they don't exist. I cannot bear rational folk. If they are so sensible then why can't they bring their bad breath under control? Theists are the sort of people who idolise John Lennon then have the cheek to piss on other people's faith.
Anyway that was all by way of a reminder as to where I stand on religion. Now onto them deviants.
I am only bi but I help the lezzas out when they're short staffed. I don't mind gay chaps even if I envy their ability to enjoy anal sex. I can't see the attraction in it myself though Mr Clairwil (a real life lapsed Catholic) can dish it out but can't take it.
I expect my views are in part informed by the above. Does that make it clearer to the authors of this weeks fan mail? Good then let's get back to Bishop Devine.
Before I start I merely observe that it is sad that homosexuals and bishops can't find a bit of common ground, with them being the only two groups of men subject to 'backs to the walls lads' jokes.
Moving on, Bishop Devine is baffled by homosexuals turning up for holocaust memorials. Bishop Devine claims to be a Christian which as far as I understand it means that he should condemn homosexual conduct as per Leviticus but shouldn't mean pretending that homosexuals didn't cop it under the Nazis. Does that count as holocaust denial? I think it does. Might I suggest a walk round any of the remaining concentration camps or a quick read as a cure for that delusion.
He also appears to be one of the last remaining folk outside literary marketing that are glad Oscar Wilde went to prison. I know folk that claim to feel nauseous at the very thought of chap sex who would protest at anyone being locked up for it. After all people spring about freely for committing lesser sins. Why does he have such a bee in his bonnet about yon gays? Does Bishop Devine secretly want it up the arse?
People throw rocks at my head for this all the time but I have no objection to Bishop Devine or anyone else thinking homosexuality, adultery, gluttony or dear old sex before marriage is wrong. It's all there in the Bible! Religious folk are under no obligation to adhere to modern liberal thoughts. In fact I'd be the first to take to the streets in their defence if anyone forced them to. Bishops have got a duty to uphold standards. I just get narked when they seem to believe that folk outside their little cult should be subject to their rules. Frankly I blame Catholic schools for giving them ideas above their station.
The dear old bish is also ticked off at secularism. On this I think he's right. The biggest threat to people like him is a truly secular state. The power base of daft priests and bishops is Catholic schools -everyone else laughs at them! The best thing the state could do is withdraw funding for these indoctrination tanks unless of course they want to destroy any hope of racial and religious integration in this country by funding Muslim schools?
I'll defend to the death the Catholic's right to be puritans -more than they'd do for me. But people let's keep those folk in their place. Rise up and make every publicly funded school secular. If there really is a need for the "unique ethos" of a Catholic school in this (if anything) Protestant country then let the Vatican stump up the cash.

Terror Attacks Cause Outbreak Of Drivel On The Web!
Hello,
I have been following the coverage of the terror attack at Glasgow Airport with some interest. Against my better judgement I took a trip over to the BBC news 'Have Your Say' bit. Oh Lord! There are times when I think free speech is a terrible error. Then I think again and conclude that if everyone else is going to talk total nonsense who am I to swim against the tide?
First up we have people attempting to get to the root cause of why the airport was attacked. Quite frankly I think someone in authority should take these 'experts' at their word and send them to Guantanamo Bay for having a suspicious level of insider knowledge. I realise that's a bit unfair given that they're talking frightful rot but it's better than them being allowed to air their views and mislead impressionable children and other vulnerable people.
A popular explanation is of course the Iraq War. Quite why someone who felt that way would attack a country which has just elected a devolved government that are vocal opponents of the Iraq war is not explained or I suspect given any consideration. Something of an own goal for the terrorists there I'd have thought, if they were in a tizzy about Iraq.
Whilst I believe that situations like the Iraq War and so on don't do recruitment to terrorist organisations any harm at all they are not the root cause of Islamist terror. There are times when I'm tempted to start supporting the war in Iraq to distance myself from 'Iraq bores'. Honestly if I were to mention that the telly was a bit dull last night I wouldn't be surprised if someone responded well of course what do you expect when we've killed all those poor Iraqis.
There are loads of folk with solutions to the problem. Like ID cards. Saints preserve us. Asylum Seekers are presently obliged to carry ID cards and it doesn't appear to have had much bearing on terrorism prevention in the UK. In any case, is someone mad enough to set fire to themselves likely to be deterred by someone knowing who they are? I cannot see many future terror plots being abandoned with the words 'drat those infidels and their ID cards'.
The deport everyone brigade are out in full. Quite how this would sort out homegrown terrorists is unclear. What do they expect the government to do? Approach some Muslim country and explain 'we're having a spot of trouble with some Islamist terrorists and we thought with you being Muslims you wouldn't mind importing a selection of violent British nutters'. Somehow I can't see that one working. If someone who isn't British presents a threat to public safety then jail them and boot them out and the end of their sentence however it's not going to eliminate the threat.
Then we have some tosser moaning about Alex Salmond making a statement. Good Lord the way that Salmond carries on you'd think he was First Minister and Scotland had been attacked! That's all we need an uppity Scot getting narked and sticking his beak into matters that don't concern him. He'll only get it wrong and break things.
I think my favourite comment was by 'Claire'. 'I am 22 years old and should not feel unsafe in my own country'. What does being 22 have to do with it you bloody fool? Why she didn't just write 'I am a pampered halfwit who descends into a footstamping hissy fit each time the world shows itself to be less than perfect' and have done with it I don't know. Six months in Iraq would sort her out. As if being 22 grants one the right to special protection!
An improbably named gentleman, one 'Mr Buttomungous' claims to have seen four chaps acting suspiciously in a Silver Mercedes last autumn. However he didn't report this or anything sensible like that in case someone thought he was a racist. I think that is quite the silliest thing ever said by any human being anywhere. Why would anyone publicly confess to finding the though of an accusation of racism as being worse than failure to report a potential terrorist attack?
Mind you abuse of the right of free speech is nothing to the abuse of the English language on that board. It's a well known fact that English is the worlds greatest language, I myself refuse to speak any other, even when overseas. I rather fancy the foreigners enjoy the challenge, in any case I always get my egg and chips. To return to the BBC website, if I find people communicating with grunts and fire in the next couple of hours I won't raise so much as an eyebrow in surprise. Instead I shall draw some stick men and jump up and down.
Finally would you all think less of me if I confess to feeling a warm glow at living in a city with citizens mad and heroic enough to punch out a psyched up burning terrorist? The only thing that would have made me happier would be if they'd beaten him with Irn Bru bottles pausing only to light a fag off the flames.
Cheerio
