Madonna, What The Fuck?

Against all expectations Madonna has recorded a cracking new album. Obviously I'll never again feel the way I did when I first fell in love with her at my first sight of the 'Open Your Heart' video, but this new stuff is good. I just have one small criticism, the lyrics are extremely poor,
take this, for example

'I don't like cities/But I like New York/Other places make me feel like a dork/Los Angeles is for people who sleep/Paris and London Baby you can keep'

'If you don't like my attitude/Then you can F off'

Now the old Madonna, the Madonna I fell in love with would have said 'fuck', 'F' strikes entirely the wrong note. It's too genteel. My mother says 'F'. I used to report my brother for 'effing and jeffing' in the vain hope my parents would drown him and start liking me again. I had an excuse, I was nine, Madonna is far older than nine. Say 'fuck' woman, oh yes and less of the rhyming doggrell if you don't mind.

Lord knows she was never a poet, but really!

From what I hear, the whole album pretty much runs as a single entity, like a DJ mix. Or I could have just dreamt that...........

Anyway, i'm tempted, even with dodgy lyrics........

It's actually a good album. Straight ahead pop music that's slightly more stylish than the stuff fat office birds dance round their handbags to. Only slightly mind, so it's still fun. There's a couple of bits of middle eastern wailing on it which I like. If I made a record I'd have some foreign on it. It sounds like you're being clever and dirty or clever and mystical either of which is fine with me. The album is like a DJ mix but with enough of a pause between tracks to allow you to butcher it for wee compilation CDs and tapes, if you're very quick.

I can't remember the exact quote but Madonna said she wanted people to feel like they were trapped in a giant glitter ball when they listened to it and I think she's suceeded. The mad old fox! There's lots of fading in and out, even during songs which I'm really drawn to for some reason. The whole thing feels a bit like drifting in and out of consciousness in a disco.

I'm worried about Madonna. The recent video of her in that hideously tacky leotard is a real turn-off. I can't even listen to the music with visuals like that. Besides, my heart belongs to Kate Moss.

The leotard is a bit of a worry. I've decided to overlook it for the time being, though if I see her in a pair of those God awful 'city shorts' I may have to join your boycott.

What are city shorts?
