Dirty Bastards!

Hello,
Some of you may recall my plan to turn the communal bin area behind my flats into a garden. Well today I escaped from work a couple of hours early and since it was a nice day thought I'd make a start.

Imagine my horror when I was greeted with the mess above! You will note that there is less piled up stinking rubbish in the second picture than in the first. This is only because I put the rubbish lying on the path into the three EMPTY bins available. These are now full to overflowing. The two blue bins at the back are next to bloody useless recycling bins that from what I could tell appear to be full of rainwater and nothing else. They're also locked with only a small hole for paper to go into, meaning there is nowhere for the remaining rubbish to go!

I came back indoors to fire off an email to the council, vent a bit of rage and have a rest before getting back into it.

It's just so frustrating. Why in God's name won't they put the rubbish in the bin? I have resigned myself to cleaning up after the rest of the close since I seem to be the only current resident that would prefer not to live in a landfill site. I don't understand their behaviour or mindset at all. Any suggestions on tackling this problem that don't involve physical violence (that is plan b)?

Cheerio

Don't mean to get into a back garden 'Top Trumps' with you, but I think I might just take some snaps of the shithole that is my bin shelter too. I suffer from the same problems of tossers who can't put rubbish bags into the bins. The result is that children/foxes/seagulls get into it and now the shelter itself is a rancid mess of damp, rotting shite. Some ignorant cur has also smashed some crockery on the path between the two fenced off greens leading to the back door, which I have a feeling I'll be clearing up before too long.

Your close at least has decent sized bins. Mine are tiny, open things that taper inwards at the bottom. They hold about four binbags each.

I'm never sure whose responsibility the bin area is. Is it the councils? Is it the Housing Association? Is it the residents?(No, really!)

Bah!

Just to clarify...

"Is it the residents?"

What I mean is, who comes and cleans it out when it becomes an unsanitary mess? I realise residents have a collective responsibility for these things......

It's the responsibility of the property owners but the council does have powers to force them to keep it in a sanitary condition.

I emailed them to ask if they could collect the rubbish as soon as possible rather than wait for the Monday collection given the current state of the place, replace the recycling bins with general refuse bins and issue some sort of collective arse kicking to the property owners.

I have to say I have a new found respect for bin men. Sorting that lot out was exhausting quite apart from the fear of being savaged by a rat.

That might work. This evening I am trying home made leaflets but if they fail......

If they fail.........

Name and shame! Details and photos to the Evening Times. Theres nothing they like more than a good old campaign.

Or as a last resort - tell Councillor Terry.

Take that as a 'no, go away', shall I?

I'd actually rather tell dear old Cllr Kelly than my local councillor, who incredibly is even more of a fool than Kelly.
