More Peculiar Sculpture

Hello,

This statue was brought to my attention recently by a shocked relative. They seemed to think I'd have some knowledge of how it came to be. Their tone was most accusatory. Lord knows why, I can state quite categorically that have never been involved in the sculpting of statues of portly naked men. As you can tell my family hold me in the highest esteem. Anyway as ever I must turn to my clever band of readers for enlightenment. Who or what is responsible for the tubby naked fellow outside Princes Square in Glasgow? More to the point, what does it all mean?

Cheerio

He looks, to my inexpert eye, a bit like a football supporter - you know, small head, small brain, small willy - but whether he be a 'blue' or a 'green', well, I would hardly dare guess!

Hi. The artist is Shona Kinloch and the sculpture is called 'As Proud As........'

Apparently she's done loads of other stuff around Glasgow.

David, I'd wager that he's probably a supporter of one of Glasgow's long suffering 'lesser' teams. He just has that demeanour to him.

You a rugger man by any chance?

Rugger? 'Fraid not. The only sport that ever got me out of my armchair to go and watch was Formual One racing but that was yonks ago when 'Son of Duff' was a titch. I confess to becoming a little more interested in 'footie' recently because I like the early morning Alan Brazil show on 'Talk Sport' during which lots of grown men become incandescent over some trivial incident in a match teh night before. I've even picked a spurious expertise now.

As for that awful statue, what a very peculiar placing of the hands. A body like Gazza's drinking pal, 'Two Bellies', and a pose like prim Jean Brodie!

Is that some sort of bird there on the plinth with him?

Yes Billy it's a peacock. Sadly it's tail is furled. I do like a unfurled peacock.

I think an unfurled peacock, as good as it would be, would probably distract from the tubby fellow.

He looks as if he's got an elastoplast around his boabby, or have were you trying to pixelate it out in deference to your readers' delicate natures?
