Can anyone help an old lady?

Hello,
I am not what one would describe as a geek or a nerd when it comes to computers. I can't get excited by them. I am by nature very impatient so when after glancing at something for about three seconds I can't understand it I get very angry indeed.

I would therefore be delighted if someone could tell me what the point of 'Twitter' is. It keeps asking me what I'm doing. I keep telling it and it records this information but what for? Why do they want to know, if I'm honest I'm starting to feel scared and slightly violated. Because I can't understand what it's for it scares me.

Can anyone help?

Cheerio

It's got me stumped as well. I assumed because you tagged me with it, you knew it's secrets, but alas........

Beyond typing in nonsense for yr own amusement, it looks like a candidate for the chocolate teapot of the year award

I tend to think of it as a mini-blog. I think you can incorporate it into your weblog so that when you can't be arsed to post it looks as if you are, sort of thing.

Um. And now you know what I'm thinking whenever I think it? Apart from that it is good for nothing. NOTHING.

Illman,
I didn't mean to tag you. The bloody thing demanded my hotmail password and told me to send messages to folk. Poor Mr Clairwil hit the roof!

Katy,
You seem to be making good use of it.
I chuckled at your comment about doing a runner on your dinner guests.
You should have done it.

That is the big mistake everyone makes with Twitter. There isn't a point to it -- just like blogging really.

Oh, Twitter does my nut. I don't use it, because I barely have enough time to check blogs as it is, and I have no desire to know the minutae of my friends' lives... that's what Facebook status updates are for, and at least they overwrite! But I keep getting added to the contacts of these people who are "following" 4,000 others. Don't these people have lives/jobs/sexual partners?

I wouldn't say blogging is quite in the same league as Twitter when it comes to pointlessness.
